PROVO, Utah (AP) — Latino students make up the largest ethnic minority group in Utah, but teachers and administrators of the same group are rare, making up just 2.5 percent of educators compared to 17 percent of the state's student body. The Daily Herald reports only two of the 130 schools in Utah County have a Latino principal. Latino interest groups worry that as the number of Latinos grows, the gap between Latino students and educators will widen.

COVE FORT, Utah (AP) — The Utah Department of Transportation says a 23-mile stretch of Interstate 70 that was closed because of a wildfire in south-central Utah is expected to fully reopen Saturday evening. I-70's westbound lanes east of the junction with Interstate 15 were reopened late Saturday afternoon after being closed about four earlier hours earlier, but Utah DOT and the state Highway Patrol said eastbound lanes remained closed due to a controlled burn.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wants a federal court to toss a lawsuit filed by Utah, New Mexico and the Navajo Nation seeking the repayment of cleanup costs for a mine spill in Colorado that polluted rivers in three states. The EPA said in a motion Wednesday that the court doesn't need to intervene because crews are already working on the cleanup of water contaminated with heavy metals that was accidentally released from an EPA-monitored mine.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials have reached a deal to sell land to a group of residents instead of a construction company, effectively scrapping plans for a gravel pit near Capitol Reef National Park. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration on Thursday approved a $525,000 bid from Teasdale residents for the parcel.
