LIMA, Peru (AP) — Authorities say two siblings set off explosions at a hospital in Peru's capital, injuring at least 35 people in an apparent act of vengeance over their mother's death.
Officials say Alexander and Claudia Benites were both seriously injured in the explosions — and are now being treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital they're accused of attacking.
Investigators say the siblings had sued the Ricardo Palma clinic for negligence when their mother died after being operated on for a brain tumor. A Peruvian court fined the hospital $100,000 but the family wanted the doctors responsible for their mother's care to be punished as well.
Tuesday's explosions forced an evacuation of the hospital and traffic chaos in nearby streets.
