WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — The Latest on a Utah man arrested as a suspect in a double homicide in West Valley City (all times local):
12:30 p.m.
West Valley police say a naked gunman who fatally shot two people staying in a trailer on the property behind his house has been booked on suspicion of two homicide charges.
Police spokeswoman Roxanne Vainuku said Wednesday 23-year-old Kennedy Lund of West Valley City surrendered to police Tuesday night after he killed a man and woman and ran across the street to a family member's home. She said family members managed to get the gun away from him before he agreed to exit the home and be taken into custody.
The victims have been identified as 33-year-old Martin Barron and 37-year-old Chasidy Gerber.
It's not clear if Lund has a lawyer.
Vainuku says investigators have not been able to interview him due to medical concerns.
Contrary to earlier reports, she says there was no argument between the victims and the shooter before the killings.
9:35 a.m.
Police in suburban Salt Lake City have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of man and woman in West Valley City.
Police say the two victims lived in a shed in West Valley City on the same property as the man accused of killing them owns a home.
West Valley police told the Deseret News say they responded to reports of gunfire at his house at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators say the three of them apparently were arguing before the shots were fired.
They say the suspect ran across the street to another family member's house, where his relatives took the gun away from him.
Police surrounded that house and talked him into coming outside, where he was taken into custody.
No names have been released.
