MOAB, Utah (AP) — Homeowners in Utah are returning to the charred remains of 10 buildings destroyed by wildfire in Moab, while police investigate the source of the blaze.
Continued hot, dry and windy weather prompted federal and state land managers to tighten fire restrictions Friday in several southeastern Utah counties.
In Emery County, a sheriff's spokeswoman says a fire that forced the evacuation of 22 people in Bear Creek Canyon grew to more than 14 square miles (36 square kilometers) on Thursday and was 10 percent contained.
In Moab, Police Chief Jim Winder told the Deseret News the fire began Tuesday evening in a wooded area and was "human-caused," although details about how it started weren't immediately clear.
No injuries were reported and officials have not put out a dollar estimate on damage.
