CHICAGO (AP) — The Nation of Islam says the oldest son of Minister Louis Farrakhan has died.

The group's Chicago headquarters says 60-year-old Louis Farrakhan Jr. died over the weekend at the family home in Phoenix.

A statement on the Nation of Islam's website says the younger Farrakhan had a heart condition and it appears he died peacefully in his sleep.

The statement says he worked alongside his father in fulfilling the mission of the Nation of Islam.

The Nation of Islam has espoused black nationalism and self-reliance since the 1930s, but the elder Farrakhan has been known for provocative comments considered anti-Semitic or against the U.S. government.
