SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities in the Salt Lake City area are investigating the fatal shooting by officers of a man suspected of robbing a convenience store, stealing a police K-9 vehicle with a dog inside, crashing into other vehicles and wielding a gun when confronted by officers a second time.

West Jordan police on Tuesday identified the man killed Monday afternoon as 23-year-old Michael Glad.

Police Sgt. J.C. Holt tells the Salt Lake Tribune the suspect used a gun toward to commandeer the K-9 truck unit a few minutes after the store robbery in Taylorsville.

Glad was still in the police vehicle and Holt says he brandished a gun at officers before he was shot and killed.

Two occupants of vehicles hit by the police vehicle were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
