SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of two former inmates who investigators say were among the men abused by guards while incarcerated at a Utah county jail.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah filed the federal civil rights lawsuit Wednesday, claiming Dustin Law Porter and Steven Drollette received long-term harm from the systemic abuse at the Daggett County jail.
The suit names multiple defendants including state Department of Corrections officials, Daggett County, its former and current sheriffs and former deputies.
The jail was shut down last year after state investigators uncovered abuse that included guards shocking inmates with a stun gun and subjecting them to attacks by police dog.
The suit seeks unspecified damages and a jury trial.
