BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Zoo Boise has euthanized its 14-year-old tiger.
The Idaho Statesman reports the Amur tiger named Katarina was euthanized Tuesday due to complications from a back injury she suffered last year.
She was the last tiger remaining at the zoo.
Zoo staff say Katarina underwent spinal surgery for a herniated disc in October and was doing fine in her exhibit until a couple days ago.
They decided to put her down because the risk of surgery would have been too great.
The zoo had two other tigers, brother Tundra and Taiga, who died in 2016 and 2013 respectively.
