JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a man who was shot by police last week in Mississippi has died.

The Jackson Police Department on Monday confirmed the death of 37-year-old Lee Edward Bonner.

Jackson news outlets say the shooting occurred Wednesday. Police said narcotics agents investigating possible drug activity near Jackson State University encountered two men who immediately ran to an abandoned house. Authorities say one of them fired a handgun. Police said Bonner was shot when officers returned fire, striking him twice.

Police say they have recovered the weapon that was fired at the officers and determined it had been stolen.

The other suspect remained at large Monday.

Two unidentified officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the completion of investigations of the shooting.
