SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A legislative panel has advanced a bill that would require all Utah lobbyists to undergo annual anti-harassment training in order to be licensed to lobby at the state Capitol.
An interim committee rejected the proposal in November.
But the Deseret News reports the House Government Operations Committee sent it to the House floor Tuesday on a 6-3 vote.
Utah already requires lawmakers and staff to undergo training about harassment that's based on sex, religion, race or other factors, but not lobbyists who frequent the Capitol and meet privately with lawmakers and staff.
Thomas Vaughn, the Legislature's Associate General Counsel, said requiring anti-harassment training for lobbyists would help ensure that the state is doing all it can to create a safe workplace at the Capitol.
