RIVERTON, Utah (AP) — Police say a senior high school athlete was killed after his car crashed into the back of a school bus in a Salt Lake City suburb.
The Deseret News reports 17-year-old Bryson Hathaway died Wednesday afternoon when his car rammed into the back of a Jordan School District bus in Riverton.
The Herriman High School student was a baseball and football player. Classmates are planning a memorial.
The Unified Police Department says the bus had stopped at a traffic light.
Police say a ninth-grade girl and the driver were the only people on the bus. Both were in good condition.
Police say the cause of the crash is under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor. The crash caused the car to go partially underneath the bus.
