PROVO, Utah (AP) — Prosecutors are working on a plea agreement with a Utah man accused of stealing donations intended to aid the family of a Fountain Green girl who had a terminal illness.
The Deseret News reports Utah County prosecutors had expected 46-year-old James Fowlke Richards to plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges during a hearing Thursday.
Prosecutor Sam Pead says a deal had been negotiated with the Pleasant Grove man, but confusion occurred Thursday on whether the agreement included jail time.
Pead says the terms of the deal are still in place.
Richard's attorney declined to comment Thursday.
Richards was charged in 2016 with felony communications fraud and forgery.
Authorities say Richards defrauded organizations after claiming he had been paying medical bills for 7-year-old Addie Fausett.
Fausett died in July 2016.
