ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities in northeast Nevada may have found the remote mountain crash site of a small plane and pilot from Mississippi missing for more than a week.
Elko County Sheriff's Sgt. Nick Czegledi said Friday stormy weather has prevented a helicopter from reaching the site but hopes to resume operations Saturday in the Ruby Mountains southeast of Elko 60 miles (96km) west of the Utah line.
He told the Elko Daily Free Press they've "possibly ... located it" but won't confirm anything "until we touch it."
The 26-year-old pilot flying from Sacramento to Salt Lake City reported icy conditions Jan. 11 about 8:30 p.m.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor told The Associated Press Friday there's been no confirmation of wreckage. He said the pilot was the only one onboard when the twin-engine Piper disappeared from radar south-southeast of Elko.
