SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A public funeral for Mormon leader Robert D. Hales, who died Sunday at the age of 85, is set for Friday in Salt Lake City.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said Tuesday funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle in Temple Square.
Hales was a member of a top church governing body called the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since 1994. He died from complications related to his age.
The New York City native was a fighter pilot in the Air Force and business executive before going to help guide the church.
Hales is the fourth top Mormon leader to die in the last three years. Quorum members Boyd K. Packer, L. Tom Perry and Richard G. Scott died in 2015.
A replacement for Hales will be chosen at a later date.
