SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two people accused of stealing a Utah Highway Patrol car are under arrest after the trooper jumped in a borrowed pickup truck and chased them down.
Authorities say the trooper arrested the pair after stopping at an Interstate 80 crash near the Nevada state line and finding the wrecked car was stolen.
Highway Patrol officials say the two were unloading stuff from the car into a pickup truck that had stopped to help. Police say the trooper cuffed the two and put them in the back of his car, then turned to get the apparently stolen items from the pickup.
The woman managed to drive off in his car, so the trooper borrowed the pickup and followed. He found his car abandoned, and the suspects were arrested after a desert search.
