SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man who shot at police following a vehicle chase is in critical condition after at least one officer returned fire.

Police say the high-speed chase had begun Tuesday morning in Utah when police spotted a vehicle wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred earlier in the morning.

The chase passed through multiple counties before the vehicle lost control in Tooele. One of the two men in the vehicle had begun firing at officers after the vehicle stopped. Police say at least one officer returned fire.

The other suspect had not been injured. He had been taken into custody by police.

The victim in the earlier shooting is in stable condition.
