COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A doctor testifying at the trial of a man accused of killing his 17-month-old stepson says the boy's injuries did not occur by accident.
The Coeur d'Alene Press reports (http://bit.ly/2qmDzau ) that Dr. John Howard, a forensic pathologist with the Spokane Medical Examiner's Office in Washington, told jurors Friday that the injury was inflicted.
Joseph Davis has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Maliki Wilburn. His trial resumes Monday in First District Court.
The boy died Aug. 28, two days after being brought to a Spokane, Washington, hospital with head trauma.
Davis told police he did not know how Maliki was injured. He was alone in the apartment with the boy when he heard him screaming. Davis said he found the toddler on the floor crying and that he suspected Maliki had fallen off a coffee table.
