WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel (AHN'-geh-lah MEHR'-kuhl) to the White House. Merkel arrived shortly before noon (Eastern time) for a series of meetings with Trump. The agenda includes discussions on strengthening NATO, fighting the Islamic State group and resolving Ukraine's conflict.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House and some House conservatives have agreed to make changes in the troubled Republican health care bill. They're hoping to ease deep party divisions over the overhaul plan. But it remains uncertain whether GOP leaders have won enough support to push the high-profile measure through the House next week.

NEW YORK (AP) — A man accused of fatally running over a New York City emergency medical technician with her ambulance faced a throng of angry EMTs as he was led from a police precinct to criminal court. Jose Gonzalez faces charges including murder. He told reporters he did nothing wrong.

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $100 million to help fund infrastructure upgrades in Flint amid the Michigan city's crisis with lead-tainted water. The grant is intended to help Flint accelerate and expand its work to replace lead water-service lines and fund other critical water infrastructure improvements.

GENEVA (AP) — A top official with the U.N.'s migration agency says 42 bodies have been recovered following a military attack on a boat carrying refugees off Yemen's coast. Meanwhile, Yemen's official news agency says two missiles fired by Houthi (HOO'-thee) rebels struck a mosque in an army camp, killing 22 troops. It says the death toll is expected to rise.
