WASHINGTON (AP) — A spokeswoman for the Homeland Security Department says a DHS report that doesn't support the basis for a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries is a "commentary" and does not contain data from other intelligence community sources. A draft of the report obtained by The Associated Press finds insufficient evidence that citizens from the seven countries pose a terror threat to the U.S.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The executive editor of the New York Times says the White House has never before excluded news organizations from attending an informal, on-the-record White House press briefing. Organizations including The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, CNN and Politico were blocked. White House spokesman Sean Spicer denied playing favorites and said pool representatives were present. The action came on the same day President Donald Trump told a conservative conference that fake reporting is the "enemy of the people."
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Florida authorities say an intentionally set fire damaged a prayer hall at a Tampa-area mosque early today. The arson occurred at the Islamic Society of New Tampa. No one was at the mosque when the fire started. An advocacy group calls the fire "worrisome."
DIETRICH, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho judge has sentenced a white high school football player to three years of probation and 300 hours of community service after prosecutors said he took part in a brutal locker room assault on a black football player in the small Idaho town of Dietrich. The teen's conviction could one day be dismissed. The victim's family is suing the school district for $10 million.
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Two World War II-era grenades have been found in a suburban New York nursing home resident's refrigerator, prompting an evacuation. The Journal News reports the nursing home, in Clarkstown, was evacuated today while police searched the facility and the 91-year-old resident's car for any additional explosives.
