The Jordan River is a long-neglected waterway that needs to be revitalized. That's why KSL is delighted to see an intense year-long effort underway to develop a realistic and manageable blueprint for the river's future.
Envision Utah is guiding the process and recently released a "draft vision" for the 44-mile Jordan River corridor. Based on the input of residents and local technical experts, ten "big ideas" have been put forth.
The biggest idea is the development of a 20 mile long linear nature preserve that would "encompass hundreds of acres of open space and natural parks." Other ideas include clustered commercial centers, multi-use trails, and areas set aside for rowing and kayaking, biking and rollerblading, and equestrian uses.
The scope of the vision is impressive.
Now, the general public has opportunity to comment via an online survey at www.blueprint.slco.org. We encourage you to take a look at what's being proposed and respond to the questionnaire.
This isn't the first time efforts have been undertaken to develop a master plan for the river corridor. Many good things have already taken place. But, this is the right time for a more coordinated multi-jurisdictional approach aimed at helping the river achieve its aesthetic potential.
So, have a say. Take the survey at www.blueprint.slco.org.
