WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump has thanked supporters at a concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. He called his election "a movement like we've never seen anywhere in the world." Trump repeated and expanded upon his campaign theme by saying that he wants to "Make America great again for all of our people." He'll be sworn in tomorrow.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is defending being appointed to lead the Energy Department, the agency he once condemned and couldn't remember. Perry told a Senate panel today that he regrets "recommending its elimination." He said the agency preforms crucial functions including protecting and modernizing the nation's nuclear stockpile.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has shortened the sentences of 330 drug offenders who had appealed to him for clemency. The final round of grants brought to 1,715 the total number of inmates whose sentences Obama has commuted, more than any other president. He has pushed efforts at criminal justice reform, to reduce harsh sentences for non-violent offenders.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's government says it is extraditing drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the U.S. today, where he is wanted on drug trafficking and other charges. The convicted Sinaloa cartel boss has been held most recently in a prison near the northern border city of Ciudad Juarez. He was recaptured a year ago after making a second brazen jailbreak and had fought extradition since then.

CHICAGO (AP) — Imprisoned former House speaker Dennis Hastert wants one of his sexual abuse victims to return the $1.7 million in hush money the Illinois Republican paid him. Hastert, who is 75, is serving a 15-month sentence in federal prison for violating banking laws as he sought to silence the victim. Hastert sexually abused students at Yorkville High School where he coached wrestling before entering politics.
