SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 27-year-old man has been charged with shooting and killing a man on Utah's Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation. A federal grand jury indicted Trent Sowsonicut, of Ft. Duchesne, Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder and discharge of a firearm during a violent crime.
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Three Canadians have been banned from federal lands for five years after pleading guilty to walking on a sensitive hot spring in Yellowstone National Park and other crimes. Park officials said the three men from the group High on Life SundayFundayz pleaded guilty during a Thursday hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Carman. An investigation into the group's travels revealed rule violations at four national parks and Utah's Corona Arch and Bonneville Salt Flats.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A planned network of electric-car charging stations that could carry drivers from Disneyland to Yellowstone has received a $4 million boost from the U.S. Department of Energy. The grant will go toward building fast-charge stations spanning 1,500 miles of highway in three wide-open Western states, officials with Utah's Rocky Mountain Power said Wednesday.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State and federal officials say a land swap for 109,000 acres of state school trust land within the newly created Bears Ears National Monument won't happen before President Barack Obama leaves office. The presidential proclamation creating the monument set Thursday as a deadline for a progress report to Obama on the land exchange.
