FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The man accused of killing five people and wounding six at Fort Lauderdale airport's baggage claim is scheduled to appear in federal court in Florida today. Esteban Santiago, an Iraq war veteran, is accused of pulling a gun from his waistband Friday and firing several times before running. TMZ's website has posted a video that it says shows Santiago on the shooting rampage. The FBI isn't commenting about the video.
UNDATED (AP) — The East Coast is waiting to thaw out from a weekend of icy mess, but freezing temperatures are expected to linger until tomorrow afternoon in North Carolina, where up to 10 inches of snow and sleet fell in places on Saturday. Driving conditions remain dangerous, and school districts across the state have canceled classes for today. Over the weekend, parts of California and Nevada experienced flooding, and forecasters are warning of heavy rains in the West through the middle of the week, along with an ice storm in Oregon.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A new poll suggests that more than half of Americans view President Barack Obama favorably as he leaves office. But Americans remain deeply divided over his legacy. Fifty-seven percent of Americans surveyed in the Associated Press - N-O-R-C Center for Public Affairs Research poll say they view Obama favorably, and 37 percent have an unfavorable view. Just over half say Obama's presidency has been great or good. But less than half say they're better off because of Obama.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Donald Trump is firing back at actress Meryl Streep, who criticized the president-elect last night, during her Golden Globes acceptance speech for a lifetime achievement award. Streep said it broke her heart when she saw Trump mock a disabled reporter. She said, "when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose." Trump took to Twitter this morning, calling Streep "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood" and once again denied that he ever mocked the reporter.
DETROIT (AP) — The Chevy Bolt has gotten the award as top car in North America. The honor is being announced this morning at the annual auto show in Detroit. The Bolt beat the Genesis G90 and Volvo S90. Awards for truck and utility vehicle of the year will also be announced. About 60 automotive journalists serve as judges. Eligible vehicles must be new or substantially changed.
