CODY, Wyo. (AP) — Proposed trail changes at the Shoshone National Forest are concerning some mountain bikers.
The Cody Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/2i4KYcI) a public comment period on the proposal ends Jan. 12.
Officials suggest approving 35 miles of trails for mountain biking.
Opponents say the plan removes 28 miles of trails currently open to mountain bikes.
Shoshone National Forest spokeswoman Kristie Salzmann says officials were researching trail use amid a rise in mountain biking.
The proposal would ban mountain bikers altogether on certain trails while allowing hikers or horseback riders.
Salzmann said the goal is to be fair to all trail users.
Park County Pedalers member John Gallagher said there is really no good reason for the change.
