SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Residents living near the sites of four 150-bed homeless shelters in Salt Lake City say they feel left out of the planning process.

About 150 people showed up to speak against planned homeless shelters at a City Council meeting.

Many of those who spoke at Tuesday's meeting said they felt they were not involved in the process and they worry about drugs and violence rising in their neighborhoods, as it has in the area around the downtown Rio Grande emergency shelter.

The four planned shelters would replace the downtown facility.

A round of public workshops discussing the new homeless shelters will take place during the next few days.
