LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor William Shatner says he had hoped that his grieving for 2016 was over after Carrie Fisher's death on Tuesday. Shatner tweeted that his heart is broken over the death of Fisher's mother Debbie Reynolds, who died Wednesday. Reynolds, who was 84, died at a Los Angeles Hospital after being rushed there by paramedics. Her son, Todd Fisher, says Reynolds is "now with Carrie and we're all heartbroken."

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic lawmakers are offering mixed reactions to Secretary of State John Kerry's speech deploring Israeli settlement-building and defending the U.S. move not to veto a U.N. resolution that declared the settlements on occupied lands illegal. New York Sen. Charles Schumer says Kerry's speech may have "emboldened extremists on both sides." Kerry used his final policy speech to say that if Israel decides to abandon the two-state solution, it can't be both Jewish and democratic.

RIGA, Latvia (AP) -South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham is predicting there will be "bi-partisan sanctions" coming that will hit Russia and leader Vladimir Putin hard if hearings prove Moscow interfered with the presidential election. Graham made the statement during a visit to Latvia. And Sen. John McCain, also speaking in Latvia, reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to the Baltics.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - President Barack Obama has designated two national monuments in Utah and Nevada. The Bears Ears National Monument in Utah will cover 1.35 million acres in the Four Corners region. The designation protects land that is considered sacred and is home to an estimated 100,000 archaeological sites, including ancient cliff dwellings. In Nevada, a 300,000-acre Gold Butte National Monument outside Las Vegas would protect a scenic and ecologically fragile area.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The search for 71-year-old New Jersey woman and her 5-year-old great-granddaughter missing since Saturday has ended positively. They had been on a road trip from New Jersey to North Carolina. Virginia state police say the woman and child were found near their vehicle on private property south of Richmond. It was parked at least a mile from a paved road. Both were taken for medical evaluation. The woman is listed in serious condition. The child was in "good shape" and has been reunited with family.
