WASHINGTON (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is firing back at U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who tore into Israel for settlement-building on land claimed by the Palestinians. Kerry accused Netanyahu of dragging Israel away from democracy and forcefully rejecting the notion that America had abandoned Israel with a controversial U.N. vote that condemned Israel's actions. Netanyahu says, "Israelis do not need to be lectured about the importance of peace by foreign leaders."
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Police in the Philippines say gunmen have shot dead seven people in what they suspect is a feud involving illegal drugs. The victims include three teens and a pregnant woman. Police say one of four suspects in the shooting has been arrested, after being identified by a survivor of the attack in Caloocan city.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actress Debbie Reynolds has died at the age of 84. Reynolds died one day after the death of her daughter, actress Carrie Fisher. Reynolds' son Todd Fisher says the stress of his sister Carrie's death "was too much" for their mother. Todd Fisher says his mother said, "I want to be with Carrie."
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Police Department is allowing Sikh (seek) officers to wear turbans in place of the traditional police cap and grow beards up to a half-inch long for religious reasons. Police Commissioner James O'Neill announced the new rules Wednesday, following a graduation ceremony for new police recruits. Officers must first get approval and the turbans must be navy blue and have the NYPD insignia attached. O'Neil says there are about 160 officers who practice the Sikh religion.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 9-year-old Utah boy is in critical condition after being struck in the head during a drive-by shooting. Police say the boy was sitting in a parked car with several other children in suburban Salt Lake City Wednesday afternoon, when someone in a black BMW sedan on a cross street fired at least one shot as the car passed. Police believe the shooting in Kearns may have been gang-related and that someone else was the target.
