UNDATED (AP) — Tributes are pouring in for former astronaut and Sen. John Glenn, who died today in Ohio at age 95. Former President George H.W. Bush, on Twitter says "By his inspirational leadership spearheading our space program, John helped push back the horizon of discovery." Sen. Bill Nelson, of Florida says "He was also a first-class gentleman and an unabashed patriot."

NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is calling the survivors of last week's attack at Ohio State University "great people, amazing people." He met today in Columbus with several people who were slashed by an Ohio State student recently. The attacker first rammed a campus crowd with his car before getting out with a knife and stabbing people. He was fatally shot by police. Trump spent about 30 minutes with some of the victims and their families.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has cleared bills to keep the government running through April and authorize hundreds of water projects, but a Senate fight over benefits for retired coal miners threatens to lead to a government shutdown this weekend. After the vote, House members headed home for the holidays. In the Senate, meanwhile, Democrats are making a last-ditch effort to add two provisions to the bills.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A healthy increase in home values and higher stock prices are driving up U.S. household wealth, though the gains are largely concentrated among wealthier Americans. The Federal Reserve says real estate values increased $554 billion in the third quarter, while Americans' stock and mutual fund portfolios rose $494 billion. Total household wealth increased 1.8 percent to $90.2 trillion.

FOWLERVILLE, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in Michigan say three people are dead and 11 others are hurt following a pileup on a snow-slickened Interstate 96 near Lansing, about 55 miles west of Detroit. A spokesman for the Livingston County Sheriff Department says the pileup involved about 40 vehicles. Several crashes also were reported on Detroit-area freeways.
