OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Officials say the death toll has risen to 24 in the Friday night fire that tore through a converted warehouse in Oakland, California. That number is expected to climb, with only about 20 percent of the charred debris searched so far. Oakland Battalion Fire Chief Melinda Drayton says fire crews worked through the night to clear debris from the gutted building. She says the "heartbreaking" search for bodies will probably continue for another couple of days.

BOSTON (AP) — Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a huge blaze that displaced about 60 families in a Boston-area neighborhood. Yesterday's 10-alarm fire in Cambridge destroyed at least eight structures. Fire Chief Gerald Reardon says it's "miraculous" that no one was killed or seriously hurt. Some first responders suffered minor injuries.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A top aide to President-elect Donald Trump says he is expanding his secretary of state search beyond the four finalists announced last week. Kellyanne Conway tells reporters that Trump will have "additional interviews" this week. The previously identified finalists are Mitt Romney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former CIA director David Petraeus and Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman is another candidate who might be considered, according to someone close to the transition process who wasn't permitted to speak publicly about the process.

ALEPPO, Syria (AP) — Syrian first responders say at least 20 people have been killed in a presumed Russian or government airstrike on a rural market in the rebel-held province of Idlib (IHD'-lihb). A group of volunteers who work in insurgent-held areas says 37 others were taken to hospitals after the raid. An earlier airstrike on a nearby rebel-held village killed at least 21 people.

VIENNA (AP) — The first official results from the Austrian presidential election show left-leaning candidate Alexander Van der Bellen with what appears to be an unbeatable lead over right-winger Norbert Hofer. The margin is a surprise. Polls ahead of today's vote had shown the two candidates neck-and-neck.
