Similar scenes are playing out across the state as the recount requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein gets underway. Officials in 72 counties have less than two weeks to complete their tally.

DETROIT (AP) — Black Friday deals could pull November U.S. auto sales out of their recent slump. General Motors' sales jumped 10 percent over last November, while Toyota's sales were up 4 percent. Nissan's sales rose 7.5 percent. Kelly Blue Book expects total sales of new cars and trucks to rise 4 percent for the month to 1.37 million units. That would be the highest November total on record, beating the previous record of 1.32 million set in 2001.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits has risen. The Labor Department says applications for jobless aid rose by 17,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 268,000. WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin has been evacuated by plane from the South Pole for medical reasons. Officials say Aldrin, the second man to step on the moon, was visiting the South Pole as part of a private tourist group when his health deteriorated. CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — A man whose driver's license has been suspended nearly four dozen times has been arrested for speeding on a New York highway. State police say Darwin Barnes was pulled over last night for going 95 in a 65 mile-an-hour zone on Interstate 81 south of Syracuse. A check of his driving record showed that his license has been suspended a total of 46 times.
