COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A U.S. official has identified the suspect in the Ohio State attack that injured nine people as a man of Somali descent. The official identified Abdul Razak Ali Artan as the now-deceased suspect. He was born in Somalia and was living in the United States as a legal permanent resident. It was unclear when Artan came to the U.S. Authorities say the suspect was shot to death by a police officer after driving up onto a curb and into pedestrians and attacking people with a knife.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A witness to an attack at Ohio State University says he initially thought a car had driven over a curb into pedestrians accidentally but realized it was intentional when a man emerged with a butcher knife. Student Martin Schneider says he saw the attack take place this morning. He says he saw the attacker hit several people with the car, then emerge swinging the knife. Schneider says the attacker didn't say anything. He says he heard the car's engine revving before it hit the curb because it was going pretty fast.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says neither President Barack Obama nor Vice President Joe Biden will attend a memorial service for Fidel Castro. White House spokesman Josh Earnest says an announcement on whether or not the U.S. will send a delegation will come soon. Cubans are planning a week of memorial services for Castro. A rally honoring the late leader is planned in Havana tomorrow.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Seven potential jurors have been qualified in the federal death penalty trial of the white man accused of fatally shooting nine black parishioners at a South Carolina church. The slow process of juror qualification began today in the trial of Dylann Roof on dozens of charges including hate crimes and obstruction of religion. Questioning began after the judge ruled that Roof can represent himself in his trial in the June 2015 attack at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. His defense team remains as standby counsel.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Delta Air Lines is banning for life a passenger who rudely professed his support for President-elect Donald Trump, and insulted those who didn't, on a flight to Pennsylvania. The company's CEO says in an internal memo that the airline is also refunding the cost of tickets for other passengers on the Nov. 22 flight from Atlanta to Allentown. He says that if crew members had seen the behavior that has now been shown in a video posted on Facebook, the man would have been kicked off the flight.
