LOS ANGELES (AP) — Florence Henderson, the much-loved actress who played mom Carol Brady on "The Brady Bunch," has died. She was 82. Henderson's manager, Kayla Pressman, says the actress died surrounded by family and friends. "The Brady Bunch," first aired in 1969, and has been seen in endless reruns. There have also been "Brady Bunch" reunion movies and shows.
DETROIT (AP) — Charges could soon be announced in the fatal shooting earlier this week of a Wayne State University police officer in Detroit. Twenty-nine-year-old Officer Collin Rose was shot in the head Tuesday while on patrol. He died the next day. Detroit police have a man in custody they arrested the night of the shooting.
NEW YORK (AP) — Get ready for one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is about to begin. But for some stores and holiday shoppers, it's already started. Stores like Macy's, Walmart and Target opened Thursday evening, before some customers even had a chance to digest their turkey. This weekend is crucial to set the tone for the holiday season. The National Retail Federation says around 137 million people plan to or are considering doing their shopping during the Thanksgiving weekend.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Asian stock markets have been mostly higher Friday in subdued trading after U.S. markets were closed on the Thanksgiving holiday. But South Korea's Kospi stayed flat and the Shanghai Composite Index fell. Ric Spooner, chief market analyst at CMC Markets says, "With U.S. markets closed for Thanksgiving last night and a number of key stocks sitting at resistance levels, the question for traders today will be whether buyers are prepared to act independently of a lead from U.S. markets."
MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — Tropical Storm Otto is heading toward the Pacific Ocean after dumping rain on Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where it made landfall as the southernmost hurricane on record to hit Central America. Otto reached Nicaragua's Caribbean coast on Thursday as a dangerous Category 2 storm, but it immediately began fading as it crossed land, becoming a tropical storm by nighttime. Authorities in Nicaragua say the hurricane damaged homes, but there've been no reports of casualties.
