NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump says he intends to nominate Republican Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. The job requires Senate approval. If that happens, Haley would become the first female — and first nonwhite — Cabinet-level official in his administration. She's the daughter of Indian immigrants. Trump says in a statement that Haley is "a proven dealmaker and we look forward to making plenty of deals." Trump says Haley "will be a great leader representing us on the world stage."

BERLIN (AP) — The German government says it's repulsed by Nazi-style salutes such as those performed at a recent far-right event in Washington. But the Germans say they have confidence the United States can tackle the issue. Video published by The Atlantic shows participants at Saturday's event raising their arms in salute during a speech by Richard Spencer, head of the white-nationalist National Policy Institute. It's a salute that is illegal today in Germany. President-elect Donald Trump yesterday said he condemned and disavowed groups such as the one involved in the weekend event in Washington.

NEW YORK (AP) — Big drops in several health care companies are taking stock indexes lower in early trading on Wall Street. Drugmaker Eli Lilly plunged 14 percent early today after it said a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease failed in a clinical trial. Other health care stocks also fell. U.S. markets will be closed tomorrow for Thanksgiving.

DETROIT (AP) — Police do not believe an officer was ambushed when he was shot in the head last night while on patrol near a university campus in Detroit. Wayne State Police Chief Anthony Holt says a suspect is in custody but that he has not been charged. He says no weapon has been recovered and that an investigation is ongoing. He adds that Collin Rose's condition is "very grave" and the outcome is uncertain.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Kansas water park operator says the world's tallest waterslide will be demolished. It's where a 10-year-old boy, the son of a state lawmaker, was killed in August. The park operator says the slide will be removed once the investigation into the August death of Caleb Schwab is finished. Two women also on the ride were injured. Rafts on the ride made a 17-story drop at speeds of up to 70 miles an hour.
