CINCINNATI (AP) — Jurors have told a judge they can't reach a decision in the murder trial of a white former police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man near the University of Cincinnati. The judge told them to keep deliberating. Jurors said they were stuck on the murder and voluntary manslaughter charges against Ray Tensing, who killed motorist Sam DuBose during a traffic stop in July 2015. The judge responded that they have enough evidence for a decision and should keep working.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump's pledge to rebuild the nation's roads, bridges, airports and railways is one that was also made by President Barack Obama -- who met resistance from Congress at every turn. But transportation industry officials say Trump's enthusiasm for fixing the nation's infrastructure is reason for optimism. Trump made it the first policy issue he raised in his victory speech Wednesday. Still, Trump will be facing his party's deep-seated dislike for government spending and higher taxes if he is to generate as much $1 trillion in infrastructure spending as he has proposed.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A forest fire has crossed its containment line in western North Carolina, forcing more evacuations. State and federal fire officials say portions of the Chimney Rock and Lake Lure communities are now under evacuation orders due to the Party Rock Fire. Authorities in North Carolina and Georgia are investigating about two dozen wildfires as suspected arsons.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Texas company developing the Dakota Access pipeline says it's offered to help pay law enforcement costs related to protests. Energy Transfer Partners says it's made the offer to the state "but it has not moved beyond that at this time." North Dakota has shouldered most law enforcement expenses to date, even paying for officers from elsewhere. The pipeline's designed to carry oil from North Dakota to a shipping point in Illinois. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and its supporters argue that it threatens drinking water and cultural sites. The company insists it's safe.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oscar-nominated actor Robert Vaughn -- best known for his role on TV's "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." in the 1960s -- has died. His manager says Vaughn died this morning after a brief battle with acute leukemia. He was 83. "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." was an immediate hit when it debuted in 1964. It ran until 1968, part of an avalanche of secret-agent movies and TV shows touched off by the James Bond craze. Earlier, Vaughn was nominated for an Oscar for the 1959 film "The Young Philadelphians." He also was in the classic Western "The Magnificent Seven."
