AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — State transportation officials say about 20 miles of a Central Texas tollway will be expanded from four to six lanes before crews eventually upgrade traffic-heavy Interstate 35 through nearby Austin.

The Austin American-Statesman (http://atxne.ws/2fA7Yh6 ) reports the Texas Department of Transportation estimates the Texas 130 project will cost $195 million for design and construction. Work could begin by 2018.

The additional lanes would be between Texas 130's intersection with Texas 45 North in Pflugerville and Texas 71 near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The newspaper reported Monday that TxDOT officials say the added lanes should be open by mid-2020.

Lorena Echeverria de Misi with TxDOT says the goal is to complete the expansion before crews tear up I-35, so travelers will have a way to get around Austin.
