OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A jury has found a Riverdale man guilty of murder in a fatal shooting on a hiking trail last year.

The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that jurors reached their verdict Friday afternoon after deliberating for two hours.

The jury also convicted 21-year-old Luciano Silva of two counts of obstructing justice and one count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

Silva testified that he killed 25-year-old Horacio Mendez Sanchez in September 2015 because he feared for his life.

According to Silva, Sanchez accompanied him while he walked to a home to buy drugs.

Silva says Sanchez asked if he could hold his gun and then pointed it at him.

Silva says he shot Sanchez in the ensuing struggle.

He will be sentenced Dec. 7.
