CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — Moldovan prosecutors have detained 28 police officers on suspicion that they took bribes instead of handing out traffic fines.
The general prosecutor's office said the officers were detained at a meeting they were attending Tuesday at the interior ministry.
The office said undercover agents secretly filmed the officers allegedly taking kickbacks instead of fines for traffic violations.
Acting General Prosecutor Eduard Harunjen said more police officers may be detained.
If found guilty, they face prison sentences of up to 10 years.
