CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming has sent six highway patrol troopers to North Dakota to help authorities deal with Indian protesters demonstrating against the construction of an oil pipeline. That has prompted objections from some Wyoming Indian leaders. Gov. Matt Mead insists Wyoming is merely helping out a neighboring state and has not taken a stance on the pipeline.
FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A Utah man will spend 30 years to life in prison for tying up a family of five in a basement, blaming drug addiction for his crimes and apologizing for the pain he's caused. The sentencing Monday clears the way for 23-year-old Dereck James "DJ" Harrison to face murder charges in Wyoming in the slaying of a train worker he's accused of kidnapping as he fled police. He and his father are accused of beating the rail employee to death on the way to a remote hideout.
CODY, Wyo. (AP) — State environmental officials are investigating the deaths of trout and other fish below the Wildwood Dam on the Shoshone River northeast of Cody. Officials say sediment released from the reservoir as it was drained to repair the dam killed the fish downstream.
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A former Casper City Councilman has filed a lawsuit accusing the former police chief of conducting illegal database searches about him. Craig Hedquist's lawsuit says former Police Chief Chris Walsh conducted database searches about the former councilman without legitimate law enforcement purposes.
