SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah legislators are laying the groundwork to make another run at legalizing medical marijuana for people with certain conditions. During a legislative hearing Wednesday, Republican Sen. Brian Shiozawa, a doctor, urged his colleagues to take action next session, saying veterans with PTSD and cancer patients may benefit. Shiozawa and Rep. Brad Daw are crafting proposals that would allow more local research to study the drugs impacts for different conditions.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah prosecutors have filed charges against a juvenile in the deaths of two 13-year-old Park City boys that may be connected to a new synthetic opioid drug available online. Park City Police Chief Wade Carpenter announced the charges in a statement Wednesday. Search warrants show police have been investigating reports that other teens in Park City had ordered online the drug U-47700, sometimes known as "pink."

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — The police department in a polygamous community along the Utah-Arizona border is facing new claims of discrimination in a lawsuit filed by two men arrested on allegations of trespassing at a former city zoo. The Spectrum of St. George reports the pair say they had court permission to take possession of the property, but marshals in Colorado City, Arizona, sided with a man already living on the land.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City has set aside nearly $30 million to address homelessness and affordable housing issues. The city council on Tuesday created an $11.8 million fund to buy land for homeless resource centers and amassed another $21 million for affordable housing.
