MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a trooper has fatally shot a man who pointed a gun at him.
A police statement says Trooper Michael Armstrong went to a residence in Morehead on Wednesday evening to serve an arrest warrant on 22-year-old Matthew Brewer. Police say Brewer fled from Armstrong on foot and in the process pointed a gun at the trooper. Authorities say the trooper then fired his weapon, striking Brewer.
Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt pronounced Brewer dead at the scene.
Both Armstrong and Brewer are white.
Police said the shooting remains under investigation.
