WASHINGTON (AP) — Ahead of tonight's debate with Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump is lashing out at what he calls "self-righteous hypocrites" in the Republican Party. Trump tweeted: "Watch their poll numbers - and elections - go down!" Trump has faced a mass exodus of support in the wake of video footage in which he brags about making unwanted sexual advances toward women.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The number of deaths in the United States blamed on Hurricane Matthew now stands at 16. A second death related to the storm has been reported in South Carolina. Seven people died in North Carolina; three were killed in Florida. Four died in Georgia.

JEREMIE, Haiti (AP) — Haiti has begun three days of formal national mourning in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. An international aid response is finally getting underway as Haitian authorities try to gauge the full extent of the devastation, including hundreds dead and tens of thousands of homes obliterated.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say one person was killed and eight others were wounded when shots were fired at a party early today in the western Michigan city of Grand Rapids. Police tell WOOD-TV that officers were responding to a complaint about a party at a strip mall when they received reports that shots had been fired.

NEW YORK (AP) — At the box office, the psychological thriller "The Girl on the Train" led North American theaters in ticket sales with $24.7 million, according to studio estimates. Less successful was Nate Parker's Nat Turner biopic "The Birth of a Nation," which opened with a disappointing $7.1 million.
