PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Los Angeles County have released security video and a 911 call from the family of a man armed with a knife who died after a struggle with police at a Pasadena apartment complex. A caller tells the dispatcher that his brother was high and holding a knife under his armpit, but hadn't threatened anyone. Police say the officers used a Taser and physical force to subdue the man when he ignored their orders to drop the knife. He stopped breathing and could not be revived.

EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) — Another demonstration is planned today in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon (kuh-HOHN'), where an unarmed black man was shot and killed by police. There have been daily protests over the killing of Alfred Olango, who came to the U.S. from Uganda as a boy. Videos released yesterday show that an officer fired four times at close range after Olango assumed what was described as a shooting stance. An object in his hands turned out to be an electronic cigarette device, not a gun.

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) — Thousands of mourners are attending a funeral for a New York City fire battalion chief killed by debris from a house explosion. The Mass for Michael Fahy is being held at Annunciation Church in Yonkers. The 17-year fire department veteran was directing operations from the street when he was struck by debris Tuesday. Authorities say the explosion may have been caused by a gas main that had been tampered with. Two people have been arrested in connection with the explosion.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A woman running for a seat in the Missouri Legislature has accused a fellow Democratic candidate of raping her. Cora Faith Walker told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the attack happened when she met Steven Roberts Jr. at a St. Louis apartment to discuss how they might work together in the upcoming legislative session. Walker says she had two glasses of wine and woke up in a bed the next morning. She reported the matter to police several weeks later. Roberts' attorney says the allegations are unfounded.

ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say a rare tree frog — the last known member of the species in captivity — has died at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Rabbs' fringe-limbed tree frog was found dead in its enclosure during a routine daily inspection on Monday. Workers at the garden had nicknamed the male amphibian "Toughie." It was estimated to be about 12 years old when it died.
