NEW YORK (AP) — The New York state attorney general is confirming that the Trump Foundation isn't registered in New York as a charity to solicit donations. But Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (SHNEYE'-dur-muhn) isn't saying if Donald Trump's foundation violated any laws. The foundation is registered in the state as a charity, but state law requires a different registration for charities that solicit more than $25,000 a year from the public. The matter was first reported by The Washington Post.

NEW YORK (AP) — A spokeswoman for Hillary Clinton says neither the Democratic presidential nominee nor her campaign helped a former Miss Universe get U.S. citizenship. Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri spoke to reporters after Donald Trump unleashed a series of tweets criticizing former pageant winner Alicia Machado. Among other things, Trump claimed Clinton had helped Machado get U.S. citizenship.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore has been suspended for the rest of his term for defying federal gay marriage rulings. The action effectively removes Moore from office. The nine-member Alabama Court of the Judiciary handed down the punishment today after ruling Moore had violated standards of judicial ethics. He was found to have encouraged probate judges to deny marriage licenses to gay couples after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that everyone has a fundamental right to marry in all 50 states.

TOWNVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A 14-year-old South Carolina boy accused of killing his father and wounding three people in a school shooting has been charged as a juvenile with murder and three counts of attempted murder. A judge ordered that the teen continue to be held. He's accused of killing his father at their home on Wednesday before driving to a nearby school and opening fire. Two students and a teacher at Townville Elementary were wounded. A 6-year-old boy is in critical condition.

CINCINNATI (AP) — A suburban Cincinnati school district has closed schools after a woman reported being grabbed around the neck by a male dressed as a clown and said he made a threat against students. The Reading Community City School District mentioned the threat in a Facebook posting announcing district schools would be closed today. Officials say they take all threats seriously. People in other parts of Ohio and other states have reported scary or suspicious encounters with people dressed like clowns in recent weeks.
