WEST COVINA, Calif. (AP) — A 20 year-old man has pleaded not guilty to using an ax to kill a professional dancer whose body was found along a mountain road northeast of Los Angeles.
Phillip Wade denied the murder charge Monday. He had been in custody since Thursday and is being held on $2 million bail.
West Covina police say the body of 27-year-old Rahkeem Reyes was recovered Saturday in Azusa Canyon, five days after his car was found with its engine running and his wallet and laptop inside.
Police are still trying to determine a motive in the case and the relationship between the two men.
Reyes' girlfriend told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune (http://bit.ly/2ckowc4 ) that he had hired Wade to make a costume for him several months ago but it was never completed.
