WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is taking note of the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks in his weekly radio and Internet address. Obama hailed the values and resilience that he says both define and sustain Americans. He honored the thousands of dead as well as the bravery of survivors responders and those who work to keep the country safe. He'll observe a private moment of silence at the White House tomorrow.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Ronald Reagan's shooter becomes a mostly free man today. John Hinckley is scheduled to leave a Washington, D.C., mental hospital for good to live full-time at his mother's home in Williamsburg, Virginia. Hinckley will still have to abide by a number of restrictions and a work requirement.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Voting rights groups are claiming victory after a federal appeals court blocked Kansas, Georgia and Alabama from requiring residents to prove they are U.S. citizens when registering to vote using a national form. Voting rights groups had said a U.S. election official illegally changed proof-of-citizenship requirements on the federal registration form at the behest of the three states.
GENEVA (AP) — Details are emerging today about the new agreement between the U.S. and Russia aimed at quelling the violence in Syria. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov (SEHR'-gay LAHV'-rahf) agreed to work in lockstep against the Islamic State group and al-Qaida's affiliate in Syria. Other goals include a rejuvenated truce that will limit President Bashar Assad's forces along with new humanitarian aid.
NEW DELHI (AP) — Officials say several bodies have been recovered from a factory in Bangladesh where an exploding boiler triggered a fire. Officials say at least 23 people are dead and dozens injured. Factory safety is a major concern in Bangladesh.
