NEW YORK (AP) — Former Fox News Channel anchor Gretchen Carlson has settled her sexual harassment lawsuit against Roger Ailes. It's a case that led to the downfall of Fox's chief executive. In a statement, the parent company of Fox says it regrets that Carlson "was not treated with the respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve." According to someone familiar with the settlement, Carlson gets $20 million. She alleged that she was demoted and let go from Fox after she refused Ailes' sexual advances and complained about workplace harassment. Ailes denied the charges, but he resigned after other women made allegations.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump's campaign has released an open letter from retired military leaders promoting his candidacy. The letter, signed by 88 retired generals and admirals, cites an urgent need for a "course correction" in national security. Democrats have pounded Trump on national security and aggressively warned voters that he lacks the temperament to control the world's most powerful military. Dozens of Republican national security leaders released a letter last month warning that Trump would risk the nation's "national security and well-being."

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump says Mexico's president wasn't supposed to admit publicly that the two had discussed the issue of who would pay for Trump's proposed border wall between the two countries. He tells ABC's "Good Morning America" that President Enrique Pena Nieto broke some "ground rules" when he revealed that part of their meeting last week. Trump told reporters afterward that the issue wasn't discussed. He still insists that Mexico will pay "100 percent" for the wall. He says, "See who wins in the end."

VIENTIANE, Laos (AP) — He's offering no apologies for the U.S. bombing of Laos during the Vietnam War -- but President Barack Obama says the United States has a "moral obligation" to help that country heal. During the first visit to the Southeast Asian nation by a sitting U.S. president, Obama today said he would double spending to help clean up unexploded ordnance from that era, committing $90 million over three years.

XENIA, Ohio (AP) — A former Stanford University swimmer whose six-month sentence for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman sparked a national outcry has registered as a sex offender in Ohio, where he's living with his parents. Brock Turner registered at the Greene County sheriff's office today, four days after leaving a California jail after serving half his term. California jail inmates with good behavior typically serve half their sentences. The 21-year-old must register as a sex offender for life. He faces three years of supervised probation.
