XENIA, Ohio (AP) — Now that he's been released from a California jail -- after serving half of a six-month sentence for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman at Stanford University -- Brock Turner is planning to live with his parents in Ohio, where prison officials have agreed to supervise his probation.
The sheriff in Greene County, east of Dayton, says Turner has five days to register as a sex offender. He'll have to report to a probation officer for three years, and must avoid alcohol and drugs during that time.
Sheriff Gene Fischer says his department will send postcards to neighbors of Turner's parents, telling them that a convicted sex offender is moving in nearby. Fischer says Turner will have to register every three months at the sheriff's office, reaffirming that he's still living with his parents.
Deputies will also check on him periodically and without warning, to make sure he hasn't moved out.
He'll also be barred from parks, schools and other places where children are expected to gather.
The sheriff says he'll be "treated no differently than any other sex offender we monitor."
