BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Pennsylvania man convicted of a double killing in Boise that has been described as a murder for hire has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Idaho Statesman reports (http://bit.ly/2bzK8yG ) that John C. Douglas of Reading, Pennsylvania, on Monday was sentenced for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in connection to the May 2014 killings of Travontae Calloway and Elliott Bailey. He was convicted in January.

Two other men, Samari Winn and Anthony Robins, were sentenced in June to 40 years to life for aiding and abetting first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Police say Winn and Robins hired Douglas to kill the victims after Calloway and Bailey stole 30 pounds of Robins's marijuana.

Jeanette Juraska previously testified that when she answered the door, Douglas entered, shooting her boyfriend, Calloway, and his best friend, Bailey. Juraska said Douglas then started shooting at her, striking her in the arm, but she escaped up a staircase. She also said she saw Winn at the door before Douglas entered and started shooting.

Winn in court testimony had been described as friends with Calloway and Bailey.

Deputy Ada County Prosecutor Shelley Akamatsu praised Boise police detectives for finding ties between Douglas, Robins and others involved in the case.

"It was the Boise Police Department's relentless investigation that solved this," Akamatsu said after Douglas's sentencing hearing.

Defense attorney Jack McMahon said no decision has been made if Douglas would appeal the jury's conviction or his sentence, but he said the prosecution did a great job with the case and that mounting a defense was a challenge.
