SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego police say a man was run over and killed after lying down in front of a car to keep a friend from leaving his birthday party.
Officer Robert Heims says Jonathan Merkley and his friends were drinking at a hotel when a female partygoer decided to leave around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Merkley apparently did not want her to go and lay down in front of her BMW. Heims says the woman did not stop and ran over his chest.
Merkely was rushed to a hospital, where he died. The Garden Grove resident turned 34 on Saturday.
The Orange County Register reports (http://bit.ly/2b9p4V5 ) that the woman has not been arrested.
