DETROIT (AP) — A recruitment event is planned to help fill teaching positions in the new Detroit Public Schools Community District.

Detroit Schools' transition manager Judge Steven Rhodes will kick off Friday's teacher career fair at Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine.

The district says hundreds of positions for new applicants are open for the upcoming school year. Certified teachers who have retired or certified teachers who are interested in part-time employment opportunities also are needed.

Applications are being accepted for all teaching positions. The district says there is a critical need for special education, early childhood, secondary math and science, world languages and bilingual instruction teachers.

Interviews will be held on-site and conditional offers provided to qualified candidates.
